Created in the image of God

Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” Genesis 1:26-27 (NASB)

It is very clear that God created man distinct and above all other things He created. He only speaks of men being created in His image. This directly affects our role and position as human beings on Earth.

Because we are “created in the image of God”, we are like Him, created by God with capacities He Himself has. We are His image bearers. We are to reflect God in our thinking and character, in the way we live life, as He would do it in the Earth. All of us are unique and different, but all bearing His image. Essentially – “To be like Him”.

God calls “creation” creation, because He spoke the world into being. He is the master designer. In God’s design all creation is not created equal. We were created unique as human beings above to the rest of the created order. This distinction is very important for us to understand in our role as children of God, as image bearers, in order for us to learn what it is to rule and reign on the Earth, as God intended us to.
Why did God want us to be created in His image? So that we could be partakers of His Glory.

In contrast to God’s plan for mankind , the enemy wants us to believe the opposite. He wants to make us ineffective for the destiny God has put on each one of our lives. God’s desire and design was that we are “to be like Him”, to be a direct reflection of Himself on Earth. True image bearers of God!

Blessings.
